Carpet Maintenance
Generally
Proper and intensive care of a handmade carpet preserves its finesse and delicacy over the years.
Handmade rugs require frequent care and attention.
So choose a sunny day to clean your carpets, and after equipping yourself with the appropriate materials, get started.
The most common way to clean carpets is to use white vinegar. It makes the colors more vibrant and also has a disinfectant effect. This is simple and can be done in your home.
Deep cleaning, which should be done every 4-5 years, should be left in the hands of the specialist cleaners of our company's Service department, who, in addition to washing and maintenance, also provide carpet repair services.
Weekly maintenance
WOOL CARPETS
Clean them with a vacuum cleaner (maximum power: 600 Watt) always in the direction of the pile.
SILK CARPETS
Never use a vacuum cleaner. It is enough to gently brush them in the direction of the pile using a brush (never a wire brush).
BLENDS (WOOL-SILK)
They are cleaned like wool carpets.
WALL CARPETS
Brush lightly a couple of times a month.
Annual maintenance
Dust that collects on a handmade rug can affect its longevity. That's why it's essential to clean it once a year, according to the instructions below.
WOOL CARPETS
With a special duster, lightly tap the carpet from the back side so that the dust moves from the warp, where it has settled, to the surface of the pile. Then, vacuum the dust that has settled on the surface of the pile.
Prepare a solution of neutral detergent for very delicate clothes, at a ratio of one tablespoon to 5 liters of lukewarm water. Soak a white cloth in the solution and rub a corner of the carpet.
If the carpet becomes stained, contact us.
If the cloth does not stain: Brush the carpet with a soft brush dipped in the solution. Rinse with clean water. Be careful not to leave traces of detergent on the carpet. Be careful not to wet the base of the carpet (warp). If the carpet is very wet, dry it from the back with a hair dryer.
SILK CARPETS
Shake the carpet by hand to remove the dust.
Prepare a solution with one part white vinegar and 3 parts water. Dip a clean, soft cloth into the solution and wring it out very well. Keeping the surface of the carpet completely flat, rub it with the cloth gently, always in the direction of the pile. Dry the surface of the carpet with a hair dryer. Finally, with a clean, dry cloth, rub the carpet gently.
TO CHECK THE FASTNESS OF THE COLORS, FIRST TEST WITH THE WHITE CLOTH.
Carpet storage
Roll the carpet in the direction of the pile.
Place it in a linen or cotton bag.
It is necessary to put camphor or naphthalene inside the bag,
wrapped well in a piece of cloth.
Do not store the carpet in plastic bags because the carpet cannot “breathe”.
Immediate Reaction to Stains
WOOL CARPETS
Remove stains with absorbent tissues and then use the materials listed in the condition with a clean cloth, always starting from the edge towards the center of the stain and in the direction of the pile. FIRST, HOWEVER, TEST WITH THE WHITE CLOTH. Do not soak the carpet more than normal. After cleaning, dry the carpet with a hair dryer.
